Switching on to recycling electrical goods

Businesses are facing increased pressure from recent legislation on how to handle their customer returns and reverse logistics procedures.

As part of an EU drive to recycle two-thirds of all waste by 2016, recent directives on WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) have shifted the responsibility for disposing of these items onto retailers, who must devise alternative arrangements for recycling and refuse, instead of using landfill sites.

The WEEE directive is aimed at:

  • Reducing waste from electrical and electronic equipment
  • Improving the environmental performance of all those involved in the lifecycle of electrical and electronic goods.

Christian Salvesen caters specifically for the reverse logistics needs of the UK and European retail market. We have developed our own software, BACTRAC, to manage the entire process of dealing with the goods that consumers return, according to strict legal requirements such as WEEE.
